France already having issues with fenced online poker?

It’s a system that has drawn a lot of attention and controversy since its inception, and now analysts are wondering if France’s system for online poker –  only allowing French players to compete against other players from France –  is in fact sustainable at all.

Not only is there the issue of a smaller player base, but there’s also the issue of the 2% across-the-board tax on all pots, tournament rebuys and tournament buy ins.

The tax is capped at 1 euro for cash games –  no cap for tournaments.

That’s a massive issue, and it’s a question for rooms: how will that tax be handled?  Will it be passed on to players?  And more importantly, can a room remain profitable and sustainable with this higher rate?
